  2 years ago, a documentary named ‘Life after People’ was broadcasted on History Channel and many viewers showed a big attention to it. ‘Life after People’. Literally, the documentary contains what will happen after the humankind disappears from the Earth. Let’s take a look at some pictures below.

  2년전, History채널에서 방영된 Life after People(인류 멸망, 그 후)라는 다큐멘터리가 많은 사람들의 관심을 끌었다. 말 그대로, 인류가 지구 상에서 사라졌을때의 모습을 담은 다큐멘터리이다. 아래 관련 사진들을 보자.

  The upper part of the Eiffel Tower is overly bended. Seems like it’s about to crash down right away if not repaired sooner or later. This tower needs men’s constant care to maintain its form. Some strong structures like Hoover Dam will keep their forms for a long time but tiny creatures and molluscs will make them stop doing so. In short, artificially made stuff anyway needs people to keep them intact.

  에펠탑의 상층부가 심하게 휘어있다. 당장이라도 손보지 않으면 무너질 듯 하다. 에펠탑은 인류의 손길이 닿지 않으면 수십년 내에 무너져 버린다. 후버댐과 같은 견고한 구조물들은 비교적 오래 가겠지만, 작은 동물들과 연체동물들이 작동을 멈추게 할 것이다. 즉, 인공물은 인간 없이는 온전한 형태를 계속 유지할 수 없다.

  A subway station underground will be like a huge water tank. After its walls and buttresses give away at last, everything on the road will collapse and be piled on it.

  지하철 공간은 거대한 물탱크 역할을 하다가 벽과 지지물이 무너지면 그 속으로 도로의 모든 것들이 추락하고 쌓인다.

  Bridge cables will begin to be torn. A bridge could save its entire shape since construction laborers had regularly done maintenance works. Without people, any structure cannot remain in perfection.

  교량의 케이블이 끊어지기 시작한다. 인간이 주기적으로 보수작업을 했기 때문에 교량이 버틸 수 있었지만, 인간이 없다면 건축물은 제 형태를 유지할 수 없다.

  Wild animals will begin to come to places where people used to live in. Many pets can’t help but fail to survive. The number of cockroches and rats will decrease due to the lack of food wastes and cold Winter days. Even though rats might barely hang on, they can’t avoid being the prey of larger animals.

  야생 동물들이 사람들이 사라져버린 도심지로 몰려 온다. 대부분의 애완동물들은 인간이 없이는 생존할 수 없다. 바퀴벌레와 쥐는 음식 쓰레기가 줄어들고, 인간의 도움없이 추운 겨울을 보내면서 개체수가 줄어들게 된다. 쥐는 살아남겠지만 큰 동물의 먹이가 되어 결과적으로는 개체수가 감소한다.

  Oceans will become much more clear. It is highly expeceted that the number of underwater creatures will rise. Seagulls will also increase as a result.

  인류때문에 시름을 앓았던 바다도 곧 깨끗해진다. 바다오염때문에 위협받아왔던 수중생물의 개체수가 늘어날 것이고 그에 따라 갈매기들의 개체수도 늘어날 것이다.

  The main beneficiaries of the human disapperance are plants. They will cover up all the buildings and the roads that people had constructed.

  인류가 물러나면 최대 수혜자는 식물. 인류가 건설해 놓았던 건물과 도로를 모두 뒤덮어 버릴 것이다.

  The picture above is New York 1000 years after the human disappearance. It seems like this planet will show no sign of the humankind. The products from human intellectual activies of which we have been proud are nothing without us.

  위 사진은 인류가 사라진 후 1000년뒤의 뉴욕의 모습이다. 이제는 더 이상 인간의 흔적은 없어보인다. 인간이 그토록 자랑스러워했던 지적 활동의 산물은 자취를 감춘지 오래다.
